We have a new addition to the family. Now she needs a name. Any ideas? ![]() San Diego Skyline Well here is a fine example of a failure in my opinion. I didn’t have a tripod with me so I placed the camera on the tailgate of my truck. You can see that the image didn’t quite come out sharp. I think the next attempt will be to do a pano of the same location and maybe use a different lens. I thought I wanted the boats in the foreground, but know that I see the final image, I think their a little distracting. continue reading… ![]() Sunrise over San Diego Bay This morning I took a short walk before breakfast and really enjoyed the sunrise. Just gorgeous! I was spending time in San Diego on business and man I wished I had brought a tri-pod with me. The night before, I tried a few shots with the camera balanced on my truck of the San Diego skyline; still working on them. If they turn out, I’ll post a few. I tried a new technique that I had read about, which was dropping down my f-stop a couple of stops. I think it really helped with the overall image. The colors are richer and the sky has more contrast. I had to bump it up a bit in post, but overall, I like it.
OK, I will admit it – I still have to stop and think through my f-stops. I hate to say it, but that whole f-stop thing gives me a run for my money every now and then. I ran across this post by Steve Benard on his Photo Naturalist site that just might help me and maybe a few others. Hit the link for a quick look.
I saw this on one of my favorite photography websites. It’s not really photography related, but man is this cool! The video shows the winner of 2009’s ” Ukraine ’s Got Talent”, Kseniya Simonova, 24. She is drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. Incredible to watch. One of my favorite all-time photog’s is Joe McNally. I was cruising his site this morning and I was reminded of the shoot he did for National Geographic – The Power of Light. Amazing shot! Amazing behind the scenes video! Just so inspirational. I would have paid anything to be able to tag along on that shoot. And I just saw on twitter he was local to me this past week – damn it! I would have loved to have a cup of coffee with that guy. Joe next time your in Town, I’m buying the coffee!
A quick shot from todays shoot. I will try to get a few more up this week. *edit…..Here are the most of the selects Brittany picked. She was a blast to work with and I hope she likes her pic’s. Most of my day today has been spent being lazy around the house. I gathered some firewood and brought that under the patio roof as were expecting a week of rain here. Took a nap and slept in this morning. So as I’m reading what I just typed, a thought came to mind – YES! Today rocks! I had quite a few images from several months back that I shot at the Miramar Air-Show in San Diego that still needed processing. So here are a few from the day. continue reading… Today was one of those days when I ran out of the house at 6:45 am in the rain on my way to a meeting. I had about a 30-mininute drive to the meeting and I was thinking the entire time that after the meting I wanted to head over to the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve and photograph Oak tree’s in the foothills. I knew it would would be a good day to create a few images in the fog and rain – BUT guess what? The camera was left at home – S*#t! I hate when I do this and I really considered turning around and going back for the camera. If the meeting wasn’t work related, I would have turned around. Now the skies are clear and boring – oh well. Here are a couple of shots from last spring out at the Reserve. |
