Well here is a fine example of a failure in my opinion. I didn’t have a tripod with me so I placed the camera on the tailgate of my truck. You can see that the image didn’t quite come out sharp. I think the next attempt will be to do a pano of the same location and maybe use a different lens. I thought I wanted the boats in the foreground, but know that I see the final image, I think their a little distracting.

And here’s a few more problems. My watermark is huge. The strange thing is that the watermark is a pre-set in Aperture and I never really have any problems with it, but this image is cropped a little and that must have thrown off the scale just a bit. The image has a blue cast that is really noticeable on the boats. Oh well, if you don’t try, you will never learn.

Hit the comments and telll me how you would have approached a shot like this…

This morning I took a short walk before breakfast and really enjoyed the sunrise. Just gorgeous! I was spending time in San Diego on business and man I wished I had brought a tri-pod with me. The night before, I tried a few shots with the camera balanced on my truck of the San Diego skyline; still working on them. If they turn out, I’ll post a few.

I tried a new technique that I had read about, which was dropping down my f-stop a couple of stops. I think it really helped with the overall image. The colors are richer and the sky has more contrast. I had to bump it up a bit in post, but overall, I like it.

OK, I will admit it – I still have to stop and think through my f-stops. I hate to say it, but that whole f-stop thing gives me a run for my money every now and then. I ran across this post by Steve Benard on his Photo Naturalist site that just might help me and maybe a few others. Hit the link for a quick look.
